 Six Tuesday evenings

The teachings on lojong are essential teachings on developing genuine compassion on the path of meditation. Based on the seven points of training of the 10th century Indian teacher, Atisha Dipankara, these pithy slogans are tools for developing openness and skill in helping others. The lojong teachings are organized around seven points that contain fifty-nine pithy slogans that remind us how to awaken our hearts. They are as helpful and relevant today as they were over 1000 years ago.

The main material for study is of course the slogans. There are two practices introduced: a contemplation of the slogans and the practice of tonglen, which is a practice for awakening genuine compassion. The course will also include discussion and of course our usual Shambhala celebration with food on the last night.

Shambhala teacher and Buddhist nun, Pema Chödrön has taught extensively about the Lojong slogans and Tonglen, both are transformative methods to nuture your compassion and fearlessness in good times and bad. Some of her bestselling books on the subject are: Start Where You Are; and also The Compassion Book: Teachings for Awakening the Heart
