Weekend Meditation Retreat

with Donald Eckler

August 12th—August 13th (2017)

Date details +
  • $200 Program Price
  • $240 Patron Price

Pre-requisite:  previous meditation instruction and ability to sit for the full hour at the Centre Open House sitting

Join us for a weekend of intense practice that supports our journey of gently making friends with who we are and giving rise to our inherent fearlessness. The design of this program creates an atmosphere in which we can trust in the experience of truly feeling ourselves, the natural world, and human society.

Participants must enrol for the entire weekend retreat, as we would like to have a strong practice environment, which will be enhanced if additional people are not coming and going. As ususal during meditation retreats, participants will have a 'rota' work period to help to prepare food and keep the centre clean. Participants sleep at home, but anyone who doesn't live nearby can request accomodation on floor mats at the Meditation Centre, which has showers and a kitchen.

The retreat will include:

  • several hours of sitting meditation,
  • walking meditation,
  • Shambhala yoga,
  • individual meetings with a meditation instructor,
  • talks by teacher Donald Eckler
  • dyads (working in pairs),
  • discusssion,
  • days of partial silence and days of silence
  • lunch daily, light breakfast daily starting Sunday, snacks and drinks

We will also be doing Shambhala Buddhist opening and closing chants at the beginning and end of the day; attendees may participate in chants or listen/meditate, as they wish.

About Donald Eckler: Donald has been a student of Chogyam Trungpa and Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche since the early 1970’s. For 37 years he was a teacher with the Toronto District School Board where he worked primarily with emotionally vulnerable children. He was responsible for designing and introducing the first class in the TDSB to integrate these sensitive, yet “basically good” students into regular classrooms. He has had the good fortune to be a student, member, and teacher in the Shambhala Community for many years.
